You may see strange and awkwardly uncomfortable commercials on television for yeast infection treatment creams and products and wonder what exactly a yeast infection is as well as the signs and symptoms. Yeast infections are fungal inflammations of the vagina. They are very common in woman and as many as seventy-five percent of all women will have at least one in their lifetime. Yeast infections aren’t all that troublesome medically and can be easily treated but like everything the sooner you catch them the better. So here is what you should be looking for when you think something isn’t quite right down there.
Itching of the vagina
The most common symptom is a general itchiness of the vagina and surround vulva area. It is a constant itch that doesn’t seem to go away with physical massaging or itching of the area. This can be very frustrating because you will continue to itch and itch trying to relive the sensation but it will actually just intensify with contact.
Burning during peeing
When you pee if your vagina feels like it is burning or on fire there is a good chance you have a yeast infection.
It shouldn’t necessarily feel hot but it will tingle and squeeze as if someone was restricting you from peeing. You may also feel the need to pee but then not be able to go once you try.
Increased vaginal discharge
Some white or clear vaginal discharge is normal in all females but a sudden increase in the amount of white discharge or a thickening of such can be a red flag. if the discharge appears lumpy or extremely thick it is possible you have a yeast infection however this symptom can be associated with numerous other conditions as well.
General soreness
Some women experience a general soreness of their vaginal region when having a yeast infection. This is generally due to the discomfort the inflammation causes as the expansion can interfere with tight fitting garments and even seated positions.
Pain during sex
If sex is suddenly painful at the point of insertion there may be a problem. The inflammation can cause the vaginal hole to shrink thus making the insertion point and thrusting especially painful. If this is the case sex should be avoided until the yeast infection begins to clear up.
