Vaginal yeast infections have been experienced at least once by over 70% of all women. They are not life threatening, but they need to be treated because they have very unpleasant symptoms and they won’t go away otherwise. Some women experience recurrent vaginal infections that only go away for short periods of time and then reappear.
Vaginal infections are caused by a bacterium called Candida. This is normally found in the human body, especially in the mouth and the vagina and it doesn’t do any harm. Sometimes, out of various reasons like pregnancy or prolonged courses of antibiotics, Candida overgrows and provokes the vaginal yeast infection. This is because other bacteria normally found in the body, which prevent Candida from overgrowing, are reduced in number and can’t play their part.
Vaginal yeast infections have very nasty symptoms.
